THE USE OF STUDENT TEAM ACHIEVEMENT DIVISIONS (STAD) TECHNIQUE IN TEWACHING READING COMPREHENSION



ABSTRACT
This thesis is entitled “The Use of Student Team Achievement Divisions (STAD) Technique in Teaching Reading Comprehension”. The aim of this research is to find out whether Student Team Achievement Divisions technique effective to improve students’ achievement in reading comprehension. The sample of this research is the second year students of MTsS Lam Ujong. To obtain the data, there are two techniques used during doing research; experimental teaching and test. Based on the data obtained, it is found that students in experimental class have better achievement than students in control class. It is proved by the improvement of students’ mean score of post-test in the experimental class from 67,1 to 81,22, while the improvement score in control class is from 67,9 to 73,72. Then, those scores is calculated to get the t-test to. The t-test is 4,576 and t-table is 1, 678. The data showed that t-test is higher than t-table. It means that there is significant difference of score between the experimental class and the control class. From the data above, it can be concluded that the students in experimental class have higher achievement after they are taught by STAD technique and the data proved that it is effective to use STAD technique to improve students’ ability in reading comprehension.
